Alphapointe Announces Volunteer of the Year

At Alphapointe’s 2022 holiday party and awards event, the organization formally recognized Michael Williams as the Alphapointe Volunteer of the Year!

Michael has supported Alphapointe in many ways, including serving on Alphapointe’s Boards of Directors, volunteering for many youth-related camps and activities and working with clinical, rehabilitation and Foundation teams on numerous projects.

Michael served on Alphapointe’s Boards for more than 10 years. He was initially elected as a Foundation board member on July 21, 2011. During his tenure on the Foundation Board, he served as the Treasurer from October 2017 to May 2019. He also served on the Transformation Committee. After one year on the Foundation Board, Michael was elected to the Governing Board on Nov. 15, 2012. During his tenure, he served on the Services Committee, including as Chairman from 2018-20

Having been a supporter of Alphapointe programs in his capacity as a Vice President at UnitedHealthcare. Michael was a key sponsor for Alphapointe’s Dining in the Dark event. More recently, Michael has supported Alphapointe’s annual Boots & Pearls: Wine & Whiskey event and the annual C&C Group Alphapointe Pro-Am. His support of these two major fundraising events has helped Alphapointe reach fundraising goals, which allows the organization to provide the critically important clinical, rehabilitation and social services for thousands of people every year.

Beyond these items, Michael has helped Alphapointe as a “Servant Leader.” Among scores of instances when he has volunteer, Michael has worked with Alphapointe’s braille instructor to organize, package, label and ship books, he has joined Foundation team members for personal visits to corporate supporters, he has served as a mentor and coach to Alphapointe team members and has personally contributed significant donations to Alphapointe’s fundraising events.

Michael is a true servant leader as he gives selflessly and with great humility of himself. Because of Michael, thousands of people have been able to realize the Alphapointe mission of empowering those with vision loss to realize their goals and aspirations.
