A Legacy of Innovation: How Alphapointe’s Patents Are Saving Lives

Innovation isn’t just about creating something new—it’s about solving real-world problems in ways that change lives.
At Alphapointe, our commitment to innovation has led to a series of groundbreaking medical and tactical devices designed to enhance safety and improve outcomes for military personnel, first responders and civilians alike. Our patented products are more than just advancements in technology; they are life-saving tools tested and trusted by the people who need them most. Consider it tactical medicine: re-envisioned.
A Legacy Rooted in Innovation and Opportunity
Alphapointe’s history of innovation began more than a century ago with its founder, Catherine Hale. Frustrated by the lack of opportunities available for her blind brother, she took action. In 1916, she helped establish the Kansas City Association for the Blind, which would later become Alphapointe. By 1918, the organization had opened a workshop producing brooms, mats and other handmade items, providing employment for people who were blind.
Hale’s vision extended beyond employment. With just $50, she and a group of friends opened the Catherine Hale Home for Blind Women, ensuring safe housing options for those in need. Over the decades, Alphapointe expanded its services, from launching vision rehabilitation programs in the 1980s to establishing the region’s only Comprehensive Vision Rehabilitation Center in 2000. Today, Alphapointe continues its mission by serving thousands of people with vision loss each year while also pioneering groundbreaking medical and tactical solutions.
A History of Problem-Solving Through Patents
With a foundation built on problem-solving, Alphapointe has evolved into a leader in life-saving technology. While our history is deeply rooted in providing employment opportunities for people who are experiencing vision loss, our impact extends far beyond that. Over the years, our team has developed and patented multiple medical and tactical devices, collaborating with the Department of Defense and subject matter experts to create solutions tailored to the unique needs of military, law enforcement, emergency medical and firefighting communities.

With eight patents and other patents pending, Alphapointe’s Tactical/Medical Division has established itself as a leader in life-saving technology. Our products have been deployed worldwide, making a tangible difference in high-stakes environments where every second counts.
Patents That Save Lives
Alphapointe’s patented devices are designed with one goal in mind: saving lives. Here’s a closer look at some of our most impactful innovations:
Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet (TMT)
Patents:
- US 9855055 (2018), US 10716577 (2020), US 11504135 (2022)
- Australia 2014324593 (2019), Australia 2018217338 (2020)
- Canada 2929223 (2023)
- Europe 14847757.3 (Pending)
When it comes to preventing life-threatening blood loss, every moment is critical. The Tactical Mechanical Tourniquet (TMT) was designed to be a highly portable, easy-to-use solution for military personnel, first responders and law enforcement. Unlike traditional tourniquets, the TMT’s innovative design allows for faster and more effective application, making it an essential tool in emergency situations.
Rigid Immobilization Splint for Extremities (RISE)
Patents:
- US D926998 (2021), US 11234854 (2022)
- Europe EP 3 743 021 (2023)
- Australia 2019212695 (Pending), Canada 3127419 (Pending)
The Rigid Immobilization Splint for Extremities (RISE) provides essential stabilization for broken bones and severe injuries. Designed for both military and civilian use, the RISE splint ensures that patients receive immediate support, reducing complications during transport and treatment.

Junctional Hemorrhage Control Plate (JHCP)
Patents:
- US 11207077 (2021), US D991450S (2023)
One of our most recent innovations, the Junctional Hemorrhage Control Plate (JHCP), is designed to stop blood loss in areas where tourniquets cannot be applied, such as the groin. Working in tandem with the TMT, the JHCP provides a lightweight, easily deployable solution for severe injuries. The U.S. military, law enforcement and first responders can now access this life-saving tool, available through our distribution partner, Safeguard Medical, under the product name “TQ-RAM.”
Innovation in Action
Creating these products is not just about designing and manufacturing—it’s about rigorous testing and collaboration. Alphapointe works directly with the Department of Defense, military personnel and leading research institutions to ensure our devices meet the highest standards. For example, the JHCP was tested in real-world scenarios at Ft. Hood in Texas and Schofield Barracks in Hawai’i, as well as through research conducted by Wake Forest University’s Operational Medicine Division.
This hands-on approach ensures that every Alphapointe device is not only effective but also practical for those who will use it in the field.
Beyond Innovation: Creating Jobs & Making an Impact
What makes Alphapointe truly unique is our commitment to empowering people through employment. Every product we manufacture helps put people who are experiencing vision loss to work, providing opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable. Our tactical and medical devices have directly contributed to creating sustainable jobs for more than 25 Americans, proving that innovation and inclusivity go hand in hand.

Our impact extends beyond employment. In March, Alphapointe donated nearly 5,000 medical-related items—including 2,500 TMTs—to the Ukraine Relief Effort, ensuring that those in need had access to life-saving equipment during a time of crisis.
A Future Built on Innovation
With multiple patents secured and more in progress, Alphapointe is not slowing down. Our future will continue to be defined by our dedication to innovation, collaboration and making a meaningful impact. Whether it’s developing new technologies for military and first responders or creating employment opportunities for people who are visually impaired, we remain committed to pushing boundaries and saving lives.
Innovation is at the heart of what we do—and the proof is in our patents. By combining cutting-edge research with a mission-driven approach, Alphapointe is setting the standard for what’s possible in tactical and medical solutions.
