Emily Haapala

Emily is a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist/Orientation and Mobility Specialist. She graduated from Northern Illinois University with as Master’s degree in Education/Visual Disabilities.

She is the Braille and academics instructor at Alphapointe but is also qualified to teach orientation and mobility (O&M), adaptive technology, and activities of daily living. If she had to pick, she says, teaching Braille and O&M are her favorites.

Emily wants her clients to feel confident in the skill she teaches because of her desire to continue learning new things as an instructor. And, because assistive technology and O&M have frequent advancements, keeping with to date is important, she says.

“I want clients to be confident in their skills and know that just because they’re blind, doesn’t mean they can’t do something.”
