Mission Moment: Securing Dream Position Through Alphapointe Job Placement Services
By Mark D’Altorio
The unemployment rate for people with vision loss is 70 percent and Alphapointe aims to address the situation by offering career counseling, job search assistance, resume/cover letter writing and skills for networking, job interviewing and position placement.
Erik Ramos was an Alphapointe employee for more than 10 years and held a variety of positions in his time with the organization. These ranged from entry-level positions to stints at the U.S. Postal Service facility staffed by Alphapointe to an eventual assistant management role.
While Ramos’ path often contained challenges, he overcame any obstacles and learned a number of valuable lessons. Those lessons eventually enabled Ramos to pursue his dream job through Alphapointe’s Job Placement program.
After initial stint working in a warehouse-based position, Ramos began the process of obtaining a position in his chosen field of study: information technology. Through Alphapointe program contacts, Ramos gained a position as an IT Specialist for the New York City Department of Buildings, which was a significant step forward in his career path.
At the time that Ramos explored and secured this position, Alphapointe worked with him to examine other opportunities as well. This exploration resulted in advancing Ramos’ career as he recently was offered and accepted a position as an IT Administrator for the Social Security Administration. This position marks the culmination of Ramos’ job search as he plans to serve in this new role for the foreseeable future.
Ramos exemplifies the mission of Alphapointe and the belief that every individual with vision loss should pursue their goals and aspirations – even when those goals involve positions outside of the organization.
Ramos is just one of hundreds of stories of a person’s individual path to success after working in conjunction with Alphapointe. Learn more about the organization’s job placement services.
