Youth Events and Camps

Early intervention with kids who are blind or visually impaired helps instill them with confidence and the realization that they are fully capable of heading into the world and experiencing all that life has to offer.

  • Adventure Camp
  • Technology Camp
  • College prep
  • Summer work program

By working with vision loss experts, trained volunteers, and specialized teachers, children and youth will get to experience many of the activities that their sighted peers do … but do it in the safety of trained experts and others who understand life the way they do.

That includes a number of camps, athletic and special events, and classes. For a full list of upcoming events, visit our calendar.

Adventure Camp

Campers aged 11-19 enjoy six days of overnight camp where they get to challenge themselves with climbing walls, zip lines, horseback riding, and more. This camp helps build social skills, confidence, and the understanding of what it takes to compete in the world.

Technology Camp

This is a summer camp for youth ages 12-18 where they get to learn about adaptive technologies and gain experience with the latest information technology opportunities. Past campers have built websites, assembled and programmed robots, and learned computer programming.

College prep

This is for students transitioning from high school to college as well as young people re-entering college after experiencing vision loss where they need to learn and set up accommodations.

College prep teaches skills youth need to become successful in their college careers. For this program, it is recommended that students possess secondary level reading, writing and math skills, plus independent living, mobility, and computer skills.

Summer work program

This program, called S.T.E.P, which means Summer Transitional Employment Program, is designed to help youth explore careers and gain competitive work experience at a high school age.

Laurie Due, Youth Programs Manager

“I want to help generations of blind youth not only overcome the limitations imposed by our society, but transform the world into one which empowers all to their fullest capacities.”
